We are doing the class play: Poppleton. This play was written as an adaptation of the story originally written by Cynthia Rylant. Please write what character you would like to be, and from what chapter of the play. For example you might say, Poppleton from the chapter "The Library." Please describe what you would wear for a costume if you played the role in the play. Lastly, what kinds of scenary will you need for your chapter of the play? (What kind of backgrounds and props would you need?)

On April 30th we will be writing a story with four other 2nd grade classes from around the world. The classes are from Australia, California, Canada, and New York. So far three of the four classes have written. Each class will write one paragraph of the story. Please read what has been written of the story so far:
Once upon a time there were four children. They were called Struan, Laura, Bella and Jaxson. They were all good friends. Struan was the joker of the group, Laura was practical one, Bella was the leader and Jaxson was the technical guy. They lived near the sea and often went on little boats trips. One day when they were out sailing the fog suddenly rolled in. “Oh oh” said Struan “I can’t see the shore I think we are going to be late home.” The children got a bit worried as the waves started to get bigger and bigger. All of a sudden the water got darker and darker. Laura asked Jaxson what on earth was that dark patch in the water. Struan looked closer at the water and shouted exuberantly, “I think it’s a wizard and an army of sea creatures!” Since he was known to be a joker, his friends didn’t believe him and started to laugh. Suddenly, a colossal swirl of smoke billowed up from the water and a wizard began to appear before the shocked group of friends. A large swarm of sea creatures swam around the bottom of the wizard’s purple cloak. The kids were quite frightened and they all jumped behind Bella for protection. She bravely asked the wizard, “Who are you and where did you come from?” The wizard answered "I am from a kingdom under the sea. These are my magical sea servants. My name is Reed and I am the most powerful wizard in the sea." Reed the wizard smiled down at them and asked "Would you like to visit my kingdom?" The four kids huddled up and talked about it. When they made their decision, Bella said "We'd love to, but we can't breath under water. How would we get there?" Reed the Wizard smiled and made a big whirl-pool and sent the four kids down under the water. When they stopped spinning, they were all dizzy. They saw mermaids who led them into the castle. Beside the Wizard's chair where was a giant clam. Inside the clam was a giant pearl. It was white and sparkled brightly. As they walked up closer they could hear a voice. What do you think should happen next in the story? I would like you to write your own paragraph of what comes next. It needs to have at least 5 sentences. We will compare what YOU wrote to what the class in New York writes this week. This will be fun to see how close you are to being correct! When you get older Crestview has after school clubs that students can participate in, such as Environmental Club, Go Girls Go, and the Musical. In Environmental Club students get to plant a garden, make bird houses, and learn about other cool projects. In Go Girls Go students learn about healthy living and self respect. They also get to run and play fun games. In the after school Musical club Mrs. Walters helps students learn their lines for the spring musical. Students learn dances and some students paint sets. Crestview has a lot of great clubs.
If you could plan your own after school club, what kind of club would you have? Why would you want that club? Go to this website...
http://www.thecoolhunter.net/kids After looking at the website. Pick your favorite classroom from the website. Tell which classroom was your favorite. Describe the classroom. Explain why that classroom was your favorite. We will share these in class. This is a designer's vision of the ipod of the future. The designer created the ipod to be a bracelet that gets tighter to your wrist with air so that it doesn't fall off. It would be for both boys and girls. The controls are on the wrist of the bracelet. This is just an idea for the future. See technology is ALWAYS changing! We do a lot with technology in our class. Although, there are new technologies introduced every minute. I would like you to pretend that our class was given the opportunity to use whatever techology we wanted. There are no limitations with cost. The technology would need to be related to learning. What new technology would you recommend we use? Make sure to read the posts before yours so that you do not repeat. Have fun!

I'm sure you've seen a lot of older students walking the halls at Crestview. Or maybe you've seen an older student on your bus, in the cafeteria, or even ran into one washing your hands in the restroom. Older students can really set an example for younger students. When you are an older student at our school, I want to be proud to have my students look at you and follow your example. Who is an older student in our school (4th or 5th grader) that you think sets a good example? What do they do that sets a good example? Would you like to be like them when you are older? Why or why not? Tonight at Go Girls Go Peyton (Jenna's sister) told me that Jenna made a tent last night and slept in it. She also told me that they've painted all the bedrooms in their house! What has been happening at your house recently? It doesn't have to be anything BIG like painting or moving. It can just be a movie that you watched together as a family, or something you played with your brother or sister. I just want to know what's going on in YOUR life!
Seven one-room school houses came together to form our school! It was named “North Middleton Township Elementary School” right after it was completed. The school was renamed Crestview in 1962, the year Bellaire school opened. These are pictures of students eating in the new cafeteria which is what is now the library and office. I am so glad to have each of you as part of our class. And our class is just one of the many great classes at Crestview. The staff at Crestview go above and beyond to help students. Crestview has wonderful opportunities for students to learn, in a hands-on way. I would like for you to write a paragraph about what you think makes Crestview a great school. If these paragraphs are worthy, I will show them to Miss Holly! I LOVE how creative each of you are as individuals. That is why I want to read your ideas for how to help the children of Japan. Monday we discussed the ideas that Mrs. Bailey has for our school, which includes writing letters to the children of Japan and having a bake sale to raise money. When we were talking about this I noticed there were other people in our class who had ideas of how to help. For instance, Adrian mentioned opening some kind of road-side stand and the money made would go to help the people of Japan.
What are your ideas for how to help the children and adults who are in need in Japan? |
